With the impending end of new conventional petrol and diesel car sales by 2035 in the UK, interest in electric vehicles (EVs) has surged. At the RAC, we're here to answer all your EV questions, from charging concerns to range comparisons.
Electric vehicles, commonly known as EVs, are powered by electricity, with a battery propelling the wheels. While EV range continues to improve, most models typically offer a range between 100 and 300 miles.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) combine battery power with a petrol engine. Because of their smaller batteries, PHEVs typically offer an EV range of 15 to 40 miles, varying by model.
Hybrid vehicles (HEVs) have a limited electric-only range, with the battery recharging during braking. Check out our guide to compare PHEVs and HEVs for more information, as well as our ranking of the top hybrid cars.
