Used Peugeot 2008 for sale: everything you need to know

Peugeot launched the original 2008 in 2013, and followed it up with the model you see here in 2019. And the 2008 really took a step up in style with this second generation model, with some of the most distinctive looks in this class, whether you’re staring at it on your driveway or sitting behind the wheel.

It’s among the more popular cars in this class, and for good reason, as it’s also practical, good to drive, and economical to run. That popularity means finding good used examples isn’t difficult, and there are plenty of trim levels to choose from. Below we’ve covered the 2008’s engines and trim lines in more detail.

Should you buy a Peugeot 2008?

The Peugeot 2008 is one of a handful of cars in the compact crossover class that really stands out for its style, from the sharp creases in its panels, to the distinctive claw-style light signatures front and rear, and some particularly bold colour options in the brochure. Step inside and it’s similarly bold, and has a higher-quality feel than many of its peers.

There’s a good car underneath too, so you don’t need to opt for the 2008 on style alone. While the dashboard may look unusual, with its small steering wheel and high-set dials, the layout works better here than it does in some of Peugeot’s other cars - you should be able to both get comfortable, and still see the instruments clearly. There’s plenty of space in the rear seats too, and a reasonably-sized boot.

Physical controls for some regularly-used functions mean you don’t need to dive into the touchscreen for absolutely everything, but it’s relatively easy to use when you do. The 2008 is easy to drive too - the small steering wheel gives the car a responsive feel, the engines are punchy and don’t use a lot of fuel, and Peugeot has judged the ride and handling well. It can start to feel a little firm on the larger alloy wheel options, but never strays into being uncomfortable.

The 2008 does have some tough competition for your attention though. Even from some of its sister brands: the Citroen C3 Aircross, DS3 Sportback, and Vauxhall Mokka are all similarly stylish and nearly identical mechanically, though each offers a different feel to the Peugeot - the Citroen being softer and comfier, the DS3 more luxurious, and the Vauxhall with a sporty side. The Nissan Juke, Ford Puma, Renault Captur, Volkwagen T-Roc and more are all worth a look too - and if you need an EV, Peugeot also sells the e-2008.

What’s the best used Peugeot 2008 model to buy?

Most families will be more than happy enough with the 100PS PureTech engine and Active Premium trim, but to really make the most of the 2008’s style and its striking interior design, we’d suggest stretching for GT trim, and the 130PS PureTech. The larger alloy wheels really give the exterior a boost, and inside you get a set of nicely-trimmed sports seats and a 3D floating style instrument cluster, which looks the business. The manual gearbox is slick enough, but the automatic makes better use of the petrol engine too.

Used Peugeot 2008 fuel economy and performance

  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 100: You’ll find this 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo engine across the Peugeot range (and the Citroen, DS, and Vauxhall ranges for that matter). In 100PS form you get 0-62mph in 11 seconds flat, and economy of up to 52mpg depending on the variant.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 130: The Puretech also comes in 130PS form with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox - with 0-62mph times of 9.7 and 9.4 seconds respectively, and economy of just over 47mpg.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 155: Until 2022 the 2008 also came with the option of a 155PS version of the 1.2-litre. It was auto-only and could get from 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds, though economy dropped a little to 46.6mpg.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.5 BlueHDi: In a 100PS state of tune, the 1.5-litre diesel (and its standard six-speed manual gearbox) promised 0-62mpjh in 11.4 seconds, and up to 62.7mpg combined.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.5 BlueHDi: From 2021 the diesel got a more powerful 110PS engine, again manual-only, with a small improvement in performance - 0-62mph now took 10.5 seconds. Economy actually increased too, at 65.7mpg.

What used Peugeot 2008 trim levels are available?

  • The Peugeot 2008 Active Premium+ is where the 2008 range starts, at least in later models, and comes with air conditioning, LED headlights, and automatic emergency braking among other features.
  • The Peugeot 2008 Allure Premium+ gets more kit, with standard satellite navigation, a digital instrument cluster, a reversing camera, leather-effect seat trim and larger-diameter alloy wheels.
  • The Peugeot 2008 GT has a sportier appearance and a more luxurious feel, with a 10-inch touchscreen display, heated front seats, a wireless phone charging pad, and front parking sensors.
  • The Peugeot 2008 GT Premium is the highest-spec 2008, getting 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, lane guidance assist and Alcantara seat trim.

Used Peugeot 2008 dimensions and boot size

The Peugeot 2008’s exterior dimensions are:

  • Length: 4300mm
  • Width: 1815mm
  • Height: 1530mm

The Peugeot 2008’s boot space is:

  • 434 litres
  • 1467 litres with rear seats folded

Used Peugeot 2008 road tax

Whichever model of Peugeot 2008 you go for, you’ll pay a standard £190 a year tax rate as of 2024/2025. Well, there is one exception to this, actually - the all-electric e-2008, which is currently free to tax.

How much is it to insure a Peugeot 2008?

Insuring a Peugeot 2008 shouldn’t cost a great deal more than insuring the 208 supermini that it’s based on. The range slots into groups 14-19, though it’s not always the case that a cheaper, lower-spec version will cost less to insure - the Allure Premium+ is actually in a lower group than an Active Premium+, as it comes with more safety and security features.
